Manchester United are preparing a January bid for Crystal Palace starlet Wilfried Zaha, according to the Daily Mail.

The 'Cristiano Ronaldo-style' attacker is a transfer target for a number of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham. But Manchester United are ready to blow the competition out of the water with a mega-money bid for the 20-year-old when the window reopens.

The report quotes a Sunday People article which claims Ferguson's son, Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson, gave the young winger the seal of approval after watching the Palace star take apart his Posh side earlier this month.

And the Manchester United manager is now set to launch a 'whatever it takes' offer to lure Zaha to Old Trafford.

The Daily Mail compares Zaha to Cristiano Ronaldo, and suggests Ferguson views the youngster as a versatile forward capable of performing across the front line or out wide.

Like Ronaldo, Zaha has all the flicks and tricks, and is extremely effective on the wing, but some say the Palace star needs to add more goals to his game.

The Portuguese superstar had a similar problem when he first joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, but the 2008 Ballon d'Or winner has gone on to become one of the world's finest finishers.

Palace are thought to value Zaha at £20m, but the Daily Mail suggests United will look to pay around £10m. And Ronaldo's initial Old Trafford replacement, Nani, could make way for Zaha at Manchester United.

The Portuguese winger is locked in a contract wrangle with United, and could be set to leave the club in January, or next summer.

Arsenal and Spurs are both likely to join the bidding for Zaha, should United move first. The Gunners have a strong reputation when it comes to buying Football League talent, and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is thought to have instructed his scouts to keep a close eye on Zaha.

Similarly, north London rivals Tottenham have been linked with the Ivory Coast-born winger, and Andre Villas-Boas may look to try and keep the ‘Cristiano Ronaldo-style' , Wilfried Zaha in London if he's given the funds in January.
